The paper presents an analysis of the social psychology principles of the functioning and development of ideologies in the society. The author singles out the number of internal contradictions in ideology that act as the development basis of the ideological systems in their functioning in society and of the societies in which these ideologies are implemented. These contradictions are the unity and opposition оf values and logic, ideal and real, romantic and pragmatic, elite and mass. Two main ways to overcome these contradictions in the social development are analyzed. The first way assumes that social goals are previously recognized as having no claim to absolute and complete implementation of initial ideological values. The second method is characterized as ideology absolutization and identification of primary value system with specific social phenomena and goals.
